Covid-19 cases continue to spike in Montenegro. The country now records 933 cases, as epidemiologists announce a sharp rise in the coming days. The fact that this whole situation is quite serious has been confirmed with yesterday’s statement of the head of the Public Health Institute, Mr Boban Mugoša, who said that more than 20% of 2.000 samples sent to Germany had tested positive for the coronavirus. He reiterated that the most effective way to prevent the spread of the virus was to adhere to the prescribed measures – wearing face coverings, practicing physical distance, hand-washing, avoiding public gatherings…
Latest figures also confirm the seriousness of the situation in Montenegro. Ever since the first coronavirus case was detected, a total of 1.287 cases have been registered. There are currently 933 active cases, 79 people hospitalized, while 2.563 people are under medical surveillance. Since early June, the country has recorded 963 cases, 15 Covid-19 patients unfortunately passed away, whereas 15 people beat the virus.

According to coronainfocg.me, 606 people got infected after being in close contact with someone already infected with the virus. In 332 cases, the source of infection is unknown.
As for the age groups, people 30 to 39 years old are mostly affected with the virus – even 194 of them, while there are 167 of those infected with the virus who are 40 to 49 years old. Even 161 cases are among people 20 to 29 years old. In addition, 114 cases are among people 50 to 59 years old, 100 among those 10 to 19 years old, whereas people in the seventh decade of life make up 99 new cases. The country also recorded 60 cases among people aged 70-79 years, while those over the age of 80 make up 24 coronavirus cases.
Epidemiologists also noted that 58 children younger than nine tested positive for the coronavirus. So far, the virus hasn’t attacked those over the age of 90.
After these figures were published yesterday and went viral on social media, many citizens reacted saying that the National Coordination Body should tighten the prevention measures. Many claim that Podgorica lockdown should return as it has the greatest number of infections. However, owners of private businesses think that any suspension of work would cause a terrible disaster.
Dr Boban Mugoša told the press yesterday that the virus “is spreading like wildfire”. He reminded that coronavirus had led many economies to collapse and called on everybody to adhere to the imposed measures.
It’s still unknown whether Montenegro is going to introduce new restrictions.
The National Coordination Body will hold a meeting today at 5 pm.
