All the recent events with the presidential candidacy of the Leader of Europe Now, Milojko Spajic, inflict massive damage to him as a politician, to his movement and their political perspective, but the overall political stage having in mind that citizens do deserve new politicians who won’t lie to them. The current situation is not good for Spajic, while it’s up to the State Election Commission, DIK, to evaluate all the evidence, the coordinator of the ‘Democratization and Europeanization Program of the Centre for Civic Education’, Mira Popovic Trstenjak, told the CdM portal.
Over the previous period, the Montenegrin public witnessed lies of Mr Spajic over his citizenship and residence. Although he claimed he didn’t have either residence or citizenship of Serbia, it turned out that he did. After that, he decided to renounce both.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs now has the responsibility. The Law on Montenegrin Citizenship envisages certain consequences for having dual citizenship, that is, a person loses Montenegrin citizenship by operation of law if he/she voluntarily obtained citizenship of another country following 2006,” she explained.
She also added that non-existence of the law on government in Montenegro is a big shortcoming of the country’s legal framework.
