Democratic Front (DF) is ready to return to Parliament if the ruling coalition agreed to set the date for the new parliamentary elections, the political alliance’s representatives said at a meeting of opposition representatives in Podgorica yesterday, Dnevne Novine writes.
According to DN’s unofficial but reliable information, the meeting in the New Serb Democracy’s (NOVA) premises was attended by Anka Vukicevic (Demos), Marina Jocic (DF), Momo Koprivica and Valentina Minic (Democrats’ representatives), Sladjana Kaludjerovic (Socialist People’s Party – SNP), professor Djordjije Blazic (non-party figure) and Dragan Sosic (a member of the Za Nas (For Us) civic initiative).
URA Civic Movement didn’t send a representative to the meeting whereas Mirel Radic of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) announced earlier she would not be able to attend it.
DF’s Marina Jocic proposed a common opposition platform for returning to Parliament, containing a list of opposition demands. After making a consensus about the demands, the list would be sent to PM Dusko Markovic.
“DF believes that the document should contain a reduced number of conditions for returning to Parliament,” said Jocic.
When it comes to the state coup case, Jocic said that it was a tricky issue to put in the platform.
“This is important, especially for us from DF, but it could be interpreted as our desire to influence the judiciary,” said Jocic, adding that unity among the opposition parties was necessary to achieve the common goal – topple the current government.
She pointed out that DF was ready to consider returning to Parliament, but first a date for parliamentary elections should be set and the electoral roll should be improved completely.
All opposition parties are expected to propose their demands for the common platform. The meeting participants believe that SDP and URA representatives will attend the next opposition meeting.
Certain circles interpreted Blazic’s participation at the meeting as a possibility for him to be a presidential candidate as a non-party figure.
However, he denied being offered such an option.
“You are not the first to call me about the issue. No one offered me be a presidential candidate,” he told Dnevne Novine.
