DF will organise protests if Knezevic goes to prison

Knežević

Democratic Front (DF) is considering what steps could be taken in the case of imprisonment of one of the alliance’s leaders, Milan Knezevic. He has been summoned to serve a four-month prison sentence over assaulting a police officer. As CdM learns, the possibility of protesting is not ruled out.

According to CdM’s unofficial information, Knezevic complained to his colleagues from the Russian Rodina (Fatherland) party, trying to get a public condemnation of “an attack against DF” from official Russia.

CdM learns that DF is also considering the possibility of organising protests.

Knezevic announced yesterday that he would not willingly go to serve the four-month prison sentence. He announced that he and his lawyers would consider all the options in this case.

Today’s print media write that there is no legal remedy Knezevic could use after the sentence became final. He can only request the postponement of serving the sentence or to be pardoned by the president of the state.

Dan says that Filip Vujanovic’s office has stated that no request for Knezevic’s pardon has been received. Vijesti reports that there is a possibility that Vujanovic might exempt Knezevic from punishment or replace it by a suspended sentence, although no one asks him to do so.

The pardon procedure is initiated upon a request or ex officio.
