Setting up the Dubai-Podgorica direct flights is a major step towards even better cooperation between the two cities, it was said at the meeting of the Podgorica mayor Slavoljub Stijepovic and the ambassador of United Arab Emirates Abdulsalam Hareb Obaid Al Romaithi.
The officials pointed out that the level of economic relations continued to improve. They said that that the UAE was one of the most important foreign investors in Montenegro and that its presence was particularly appreciable in the tourism and infrastructure sectors.
Mayor Stijepovic pointed out that there were further potentials for cooperation in Podgorica, especially between business communities. He called to mind that Podgorica was becoming an increasingly tourist city.
“Only in August this year we had 73% more visits and 69% more overnights compared to the same period last year,” Stijepovic said.
In this respect, the Emirates’ open policy towards Montenegro is important, both through the introduction of regular direct flights and the abolition of visas.
The Ambassador expressed satisfaction with the very good relations between the two countries. “Our goal is to improve the overall friendly relations, through even greater presence of investors and tourists from UAE who have recognised Montenegro as an attractive investment and tourist destination,” said ambassador Al-Romaiti.
He added that Montenegro had potentials and offered technical assistance in further development of infrastructure, energy, sustainable development, services.
