“All DPS structures operate smoothly. The Political Council has not been constituted yet. It is a new body, which should give a ‘fine glaze’ to DPS policy in the future. Regarding new circumstances, we will see what we will do in terms of designing its personnel composition. I assure you that it does not reflect the full functionality of DPS bodies and the full commitment of our policy of national interests of Montenegro,” Djukanovic told journalists.
PM said that DPS Main Board will soon consider the situation and see who will lead the Political Council of the DPS in future.
Asked whether he discussed Marovic’s arrest the U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden, Djukanovic said the topic of their conversation was invitation to Montenegro to join NATO.
“We talked about the responsibilities that Montenegro is taking to further strengthening stability in the region and what we, as a full member, will need to take soon in terms of global stability,” Djukanovic said.
Decision on Solana will be in accordance with the law
Djukanovic is convinced that the Privatization Council will make a decision on the payment of the market value for salt pans (Solana) that is in accordance with the law.
“I have no doubts that people, who are engaged in preparing the council’s meeting, work well and that we will justify all that is provided for this session. I will join the works as the council’s chairman and I am sure we will make decisions which everyone probably will not be satisfied with and they will not be in compliance with all individual expectations, but they will be in accordance with the legal system of Montenegro and with our social responsibilities for the future development of our economy and the state,” Djukanovic said.
We continue our Euro-Atlantic integration without DF
Commenting on the announcement of Democratic Front that it will continue the protests in the Capital and set up their tents again, Djuknovic said that DF thus opted for destruction not only against the government, but also against the state and democratic institutions.
“It is not a new thing. It runs continuously. See pictures from 1998 and on the eve of 2006, you will see that there were the same faces, the same policy. By all this together, the wheel of Montenegrin history is tried to be pushed backwards, and that is absolutely impossible. It will be better for DF to think of what to do in the coming period in the political life of Montenegro because Montenegro will continue its way of full European and Euro-Atlantic integration with or without DF”, Djukanovic said.
Parties seeking to enter interim government did not deserve that
The prime minister reiterated that he saw no reason to make precedents in order to bring parties to power without any merit.
According to Djukanovic, the party that are seeking to enter the interim government did not deserve that by results on general elections because they did not participate in them.
“Parties that did not even exist in 2012 would like to enter the government. It would be a precedent not only in the Montenegrin political history, but in global history. So I think that this issue should be approached extremely rationally,” said Djukanovic.
The prime minister did not deny that there was a mutual political distrust in Montenegro, as well as distrust in the capacity of the electoral system, which, as he said, had not been set up by the government, but passed in the Parliament among the representatives of the parties that now show distrust.
“The fact that there is a lack of trust obliges all those responsible parties to see how to overcome the distrust. The DPS is the party that won in all the previous elections and according to every public opinion poll, the DPS is supported by 41-45% citizens. Leaders of political parties also see that and I think that it is the problem that bothers them, so they consider today whether is better for them to participate in elections or to ‘bravely leave the battlefield’ referring to an alibi which is increasingly difficult to find”, said Djukanovic.
The DPS is ready to discuss all issues that can contribute to eliminating mutual distrust in order to strengthen confidence in the electoral system.
“There is no doubt that we will win the next election and we want this victory to be undisputable, that no one can complain and to form a government that will be to work on making this country go forward, without suspicions and complaints” Djukanovic pointed out.
