Montenegrin President Milo Đukanović is scheduled to pay an official visit to the Holy See on 8 October upon the invitation of His Holiness Pope Francis, the presidential office reported.
The announced meeting confirms excellent relations between the Holy See and Montenegro, both having deep historical roots and cherishing a tradition of mutual respect, as envisaged by the 1886 Concordat between Montenegro and the Holy See.
“After restoring the independence, Montenegro has been widely recognized as the country which pays special attention to preservation and development of international relations, religious tolerance, cooperation and solidarity. Montenegro resumed relations with the Holy See through the Comprehensive Agreement, which defines the most significant segments of bilateral relations as well as the status of the Catholic community in our country,” stated the presidential office.
The President of Montenegro will have an audience with His Holiness Pope Francis and a meeting with His Eminence the Secretary of State of the Holy See Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
