Secretary General of the Union of Free Trade Unions, Srdja Kekovic, stated recently that a part of employers had already started to pressure their employees to sign part-time contracts and somewhat lower net salary instead of full-time contracts in order to avoid the obligation of increasing salaries to them as of January next year. By refusing to accept this offer, according to Vesna Simovic Zvicer, who was a coordinator of the working group for the amendments to the Labor Law, an employee can’t be fired. She warns that a part-time contract means narrower scope of the rights of an employee, particularly in terms of their right to salary and vacation, as well as the right to retirement.
Recall, according to the ‘Europe Now’ plan, the government intends to abolish social security taxes on salaries and introduce a tax-free part of the salary amounting to up to 700 euros, which means that net salaries of employees are going to increase for 17%. The government also announced the increase in the minimum salary from the current 250 euros to 450 euros.
