The EU Delegation stressed that maintaining strong and stable political support for EU reforms is a key priority for Montenegro, especially with the goal of concluding accession talks by the end of 2026. It called for an inclusive and transparent process with constructive opposition involvement.
The Delegation noted concerns over amendments to laws on internal affairs and the National Security Agency, particularly regarding data protection, which are not fully aligned with EU standards.
It also denied claims that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s office asked President Jakov Milatovic to mediate between the government and opposition, emphasising that EU accession requires a broad national consensus.
