Not only the fact that they have come for the first time in Montenegro, which is about 12,000 km away from the place where they were born and where their families live, but also their decision to enrol in the Faculty for the Montenegrin Language in Cetinje in order to learn the language of their ancestors shows how strong attachment to the land of ancestors is. Arrival of students from Argentina is very important, because the ancestors’ language has been lost long ago in the young generations and the first students will be a real ‘missionaries’ of the language of their ancestors when they return to Argentina,” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European integration communicated.
Arrival and stay of the students from Argentina were organised thanks to the efforts of the Embassy of Montenegro to that country, Montenegrin Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Education and the Royal Capital of Cetinje, which this year has become a twin town with the city of Machagai in the Chaco province. A significant number of families originating in Montenegro live in Machagai and a large number of them precisely originate from the area around Cetinje.
In cooperation with the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Education, three schools of the Montenegrin language have been successfully organised in the last four years in Argentina. They have aroused great interest among the old expatriate community in learning the language of ancestors.
Establishing of additional schools of the Montenegrin language in Argentina and Uruguay has been planned for the next year, in cooperation between the Embassy of Montenegro to Argentina, the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Education.
