IPSOS’s survey has shown that 48% of Montenegrin citizens have a positive opinion about NATO, whereas 70% of them believe that the country will become a member of the Alliance.
“We can definitely say that there is a an ascending and unstoppable trend, which started last year and which was confirmed by sending invitation for NATO membership to Montenegro and opening and completing accession negotiations,” Garcevic told Radio Montenegro .
He believes that in the coming months this trend will be continued towards the majority support among citizens.
“I believe we are very close to achieving it,” Garcevic said.
According to him, the fact that two-fifths of Montenegrin citizens believe that NATO is a guarantor of peace and security and that joining the Alliance is the only real guarantee of national sovereignty, shows that the position on that military alliance is being changed within the population.
“All this shows that there is a different view on the membership and what it brings to Montenegro within the citizens and that perhaps rational moments have prevailed and that we should continue to go in that direction,” Garcevic concluded.
