GHM offers embalming for 3.000 euros

 

 

For example, if a US citizen dies in Montenegro, costs of disposal of the remains may range up to 10 thousand US dollars (about 9.000 euros), embalming being one of the options.

 

Procedure provides that, in this particular case, information on death shall immediately be forwarded to the US embassy in Podgorica. If the death occurred outside a medical facility, it is also necessary to immediately inform the nearest hospital or undertaker.

 

Upon learning of the death of an American citizen, it is the obligation of the Embassy to inform the next of kin and also the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United States.

 

US Embassy says they could with implementation of certain requirements of nearest relatives for burial in Montenegro, or transport to the United States.

 

“Unfortunately, the Embassy is unable to make payment for this service, but if necessary, we can help in the transfer of money from the United States to Montenegro to cover funeral expenses. We can also assist in transporting personal items of the deceased person to the United States”, the Embassy noted.

 

If the family wants to bury the deceased person in the United States, the embassy recommends hiring a funeral home in Montenegro for preparation and organization, but also a funeral home in the United States, which will assume further responsibilities.

 

Thus, caskets and metal boxes for disposal of remains in Montenegro range from 100 to 1,400 US dollars.

Depending on the final destination in the United States, and the airport from which the remains were transported, the cost of transport costs about $ 5,000.

 

Embalming, which is possible only in the Clinical Center of Montenegro (General Hospital), costs between $ 2,700 and 3.400 USD, or about 3,000 euros.

 

In case it is not possible to immediately determine the cause of death or if there is legal or medical need, it is possible to conduct an autopsy.
