Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorcevic said that closing Chapter 21 on trans-European networks confirms Montenegro’s alignment with EU standards and opens the door for major infrastructure projects, investment, and economic growth. She stressed that political developments will not derail the country’s EU path, with the goal remaining to complete negotiations by 2026 and achieve membership readiness by 2028.
Gorcevic highlighted that key infrastructure projects—roads, railways, ports, and energy systems—will benefit from EU funding and integration into European networks. She acknowledged concerns about recently adopted laws, noting they will be further aligned with EU standards, particularly on data protection, in ongoing cooperation with the European Commission.
She emphasised that Montenegro remains the most advanced EU candidate, with steady reform progress and strong public support for membership, adding that geopolitical crises are not expected to slow EU enlargement.
