Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorcevic says that the real question is whether the opposition is ready to accept the decision of the Venice Commission on the retirement of Judge Dragana Djuranovic, whatever that decision may be. This is what the minister told Radio Montenegro.
The opposition MPs have been blocking the work of the parliament for more than a month because they believe that the Constitutional Committee of the Parliament, with its statement on the termination of the mandate of Constitutional Court judge Dragana Djuranovic, violated the country’s highest legal act. Several laws are now pending, among them the budget draft law for the current year. Many believe that the crisis can only be resolved by the Venice Commission, as happened in the past when it came to Montenegro.
Minister Gorcevic believes that the real question is not who will send the inquiry to that institution, but whether that decision will be accepted by everyone.
Gorcevic warns that the blockade of the parliament by the opposition is harming the state of Montenegro and that it is necessary to resolve the crisis as soon as possible.
Gorcevic recalls that, despite all the criticism, the Constitutional Court is functional.
DPS MP Aleksandra Vukovic Kuc said yesterday that the opposition is ready to listen to the opinion of the Venice Commission, but also that it offered the executive power a platform for discussion. The DPS will block the work of all local assemblies if the government in Budva is not formed by 12 February 2025, Vukovic pointed out.
