Tourists who used railway, sea or air traffic during summer season in Montenegro have been the most visible guests this year. Traffic jams, crowds in roads, at the airport and in ports prove it and according to the Government’s Report on the results of this year’s season, there are so many reasons for optimism that positive trend will continue in 2020 as well.

Railway transport in Montenegro had 488 trains bounded for Serbia. According to the report by Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs, train sets often required additional cars which transported 71.500 passengers and generated €819.000 of revenues.

“A total of 3.400 trains have been used in local transport. A great number of groups that required special seats have been transported through cooperation with agencies”, reads the report.

Legislation referring to water traffic is currently in the harmonization phase. The result of the amendments should be expansion of the activities and capacities of the port. Special emphasis has been put on nautical and cruising tourism.

“Through maritime transport and establishment of Bar-Bari-Bar line, tourism in Montenegro is given great importance. Transport that doesn’t pollute environment has been encouraged for the first time. Regular ferry line -Kamenari-Lepetani- Kamenari has been adjusted to the traffic intensity and has important role in season peak. Preconditions for opening new lines with neighboring countries are being set. The goal is to increase the share of maritime economy in tourism and partly in our country’s GDP”, reads the document.

Concrete turnover indicators show that 3.936 vignettes covered by the Port Authority Kotor have been issued to foreign ships. Around 1.05 vignettes have been handed in the region operated by the Port Authority Bar. A total of 364 cruisers have entered port in Kotor for the first nine months, whereas 26 passenger and 465 other ships have reached port in Bar.

“In the first nine months of 2019, Airports of Montenegro have served 2.263.709 passengers, which is by 8% more than in the same period in 2018”, data shows.
