The investigation into the break-in of the depot of the Podgorica High Court is ongoing. Breaking the tunnel to the archives of the High Court showed to what extent was the frivolous and irresponsible approach to the preservation of evidence for the most serious criminal trials in Montenegro, Human Rights Action CEO Tea Gorjanc Prelevic has told CdM. She notes that the depot had to be secured in the same way as the vault of a central bank, and that the real question is what the government, which is full of self-praise about the fight against crime, is doing to urgently improve the working conditions of prosecutors and judges.
As it is still not known what all disappeared from the depot, nor how much evidence was contaminated, it is to be expected that the defense of the defendants will request new expert reports.
Answering the question whether this event can block the work of the High Court, Gorjanc Prelevic says that until it is precisely established what has disappeared and from which cases, it is too early to talk about the scale of the problem.
Of course, adds Gorjanc Prelevic, if evidence that has not yet been expertly examined has disappeared, that is a problem.
Answering the question of how this event will affect the negotiation process of Montenegro, Gorjanc Prelevic points out that everything depends on how effectively this case will be investigated.
