Judging by the statements made by one of the leaders of DF, Mr Milan Knežević, and president of URA, Mr Dritan Abazović, in relation to the Law on Freedom of Religion, only two conclusions can be drawn – either the meeting was never held or somebody is not telling the truth.
Mr Andrija Mandić and Mr Knežević talked with Mr Abazović and then Mr Knežević said that some very important steps forward had been made because Mr Abazović had finally said to be ready to work on the withdrawal of the Law on Freedom of Religion.
However, in a statement made yesterday for Nova.rs, Mr Abazović said that those who should agree on the law had already done so, clearly stating that the Law “will not be withdrawn”.
“We will not withdraw the law because it’s not practical and that’s the only reason. All disputable articles will be eliminated. The church agreed, it’s all solved”, Mr Abazović said.
Episcopal Council of SOC and legal expert team sent a clear message a couple of days ago in which they didn’t ask for the withdrawal of the Law.
They believe this issue should be addressed as soon as possible and expect constituents of the new government to adopt new legal text based on the respect for freedom of religion and international standards.
Vice-president of URA, Mr Filip Adžić, has said recently that his party will not vote for the withdrawal of the Law on Freedom of Religion.
His statement provoked reaction of the president of DF club, Mr Slaven Radunović, who suggested Mr Abazović to endorse minority government “is he is not able to keep chauvinists in his lines under control”.
