The leader of the Social Democratic Party, Rasko Konjevic, says in an interview for Pobjeda that the difficult political crisis can be resolved with urgent parliamentary elections. He adds that the current majority, by adopting the Law on the President, contrary to the opinion of the Venice Commission, is pushing the state into international isolation.
“This majority has led to the fact that the EU path has been practically stopped by its actions until now. This is also the essential goal of DF, which the rest of the majority follow, and this is also the goal, as we all know, of some regional institutions so that Montenegro does not go faster towards the EU and take advantage of new political opportunities. After the latest messages from the EU, it is obvious that the majority wants to push the country into isolation, and replace the European path with secondary regional initiatives”, says Konjevic.
“It remains to be seen whether the rest of the parliamentary majority will continue to rush and blindly follow DF, at the cost of incalculable damage to state interests and the country’s political stability”, he points out.
“The latest trampling of the Constitution by the parliamentary majority is the culmination of an illegal and anti-European act. They succeeded in their plan that today in Brussels and the civilized world, Montenegro is recognized as a problem, and not as a leader in the EU process. We will see if they will manage to completely deviate from the European route, but it is certain that at least some of them will not give up on that plan at any cost”, Konjevic says.
When referring to the Open Balkan (OB) he says that it is “a closed story that at one point may have served to solve some other open regional issues. Of course, it was never in the interest of Montenegro, and it’s a good thing that with the revival of the Berlin process, it was out ad acta and made meaningless. Nobody talks much about OB anymore except Vucic and Abazovic. We also heard the clear views of Mr. Escobar that this is an issue that can be decided by citizens or their legitimate representatives, but without any urgency and haste, as Abazovic wanted to do, satisfying Vucic’s interests”, he stresses.
“There is hardly anything that can surprise you from Abazovic, even that in these circumstances he illegitimately and violently continues to make decisions against the state’s interests. That would only add fuel to the existing fire and certainly further deepen the crisis”, Konjevic points out.
