Kovač: Njegoš and Prešern are spiritual brothers

Monument of the famous Slovene poet, France Prešern and Prešern’s park were unveiled this week in Podgorica, on the occasion of the Independence day in Slovenia. The monument and the park was a gift for our town, given by the Honorary Consul of Montenegro in Slovenia, Vojislav Kovač.

Vojislav Kovač has become popular in Slovenia first as a sportsman and then as one of the most successful businessman in the country. He was always dedicated to strengthening cooperation between Montenegro and Slovenia and in 2012, he leased impressive architectural building which is today the Consulate of Montenegro.

Journalists asked him why he decided to commission monuments in the memory  of Petar II Petrović Njegoš first, and now Prešern.

“Njegoš and Prešern, spiritual brothers. They shared the same ideal, desire for freedom. And while they were the heralds of freedom of our nations in the first half of 19th century, through their beautiful verses, today they have monuments in the independent countries, Slovenia and Montenegro. I’m very proud of that”, said Kovač.
