Kusovac: Tivat has emerged a sophisticated destination

Seventy-five years after the liberation and Tivat has achieved dynamic overall development, being high on the list of fast-growing high-quality tourist destinations. In the more recent period of Montenegro’s history, after the renewal of independence, Tivat fulfilled its potentials, and today it personifies vision of whole country’s progress, said mayor of Tivat, Mr Siniša Kusovac, in the ceremonial session of the local parliament which was held today on the occasion of celebrating 21 November – Day of the Municipality of Tivat and the anniversary of the liberation of the town.

Mr Barnko Mamula (98), former federal secretary for national defense in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and head of the General-Staff of the Yugoslav People’s Army, was given special welcome.

“Tivat has characteristics of a sophisticated tourist destination of nautical and sustainable tourism with well-developed products of sun and sea, cultural, gastronomic, sport, rural, congress and active tourism throughout the year”, said Mr Kusovac.

He announced that new facility of the Daily Children’s Center with disabilities was almost finished, as well as complex of sport terrains in Donja Lastva, the first phase of lungo mare promenade in Belani and auxiliary field of the Arsenal football club. He also said that three roundabouts on the Adriatic Highway were expected to be finished in the first half of the next year.

“Construction of the main boulevard in Tivat will enhance traffic efficiency and it will provide better connection with suburban settlements. This capital investment will be carried out in 5 phases – construction of 3 roundabouts and links between them. Tender for the construction of modern MR2 road in Luštica is expected to be submitted to improve traffic infrastructure in this part of the municipality. Two key projects next year are: reconstruction of the sport center Župa with the construction of an indoor pool and construction of new school facilities for departments in Donja Lastva and Gradiošnica”, said Mr Kusovac.

President of the local parliament, Mr Ivan Novosel, talked about the liberation of Tivat in WWII and stressed that “this date has great historic importance”.

The most successful students in Tivat were handed awards. The greatest recognition of the town – November award, was handed to the Protection and Rescue Service of the municipality of Tivat and Secondary Vocational School “Mladost”.

Traditionally, the celebration started with a wreath-laying ceremony. Members of the Boka navy performed traditional folk plays, welcoming the town leaders and their guests.
