Prime minister Dusko Markovic said today at a meeting with representatives of the foreign business community in Montenegro that economic policy measures of his government in the past year produced outstanding results on the economic and development plan. The PM pointed out that the results were achieved in a specific political environment which was not favourable for the government, since it was marked by the destruction and the intention of compromising any government’s positive policy.

Markovic said that the government had built immunity to such a political environment and achieved impressive results registered by credible international institutions and organisations – the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the European Commission, which is particularly encouraging for the government.
“The expected real growth of the Montenegrin economy is well above the planned level,” the prime minister said.

He added that the planned growth was 2.7%, and that in the first six months the country had a 4.2% growth. In the second quarter the growth was imposing 5.1% – one of the highest rates in Europe – and that the annual growth rate is projected at 4%.
“In 2017 Montenegro achieved one of its most important foreign policy priorities – NATO membership,” Markovic said.
Markovic presented the results of fiscal consolidation to the Council of Foreign Investors.
“Along with these measures, we continued to work on our policies in the field of structural reforms,” the prime minister said.
He also presented ongoing development projects, emphasising that the government is particularly focused on the development of the Northern Region.
Speaking of plans for the future, the PM said that in 2018 there would be no new fiscal consolidation measures. He added that, in a dialogue with all stakeholders, including with the Foreign Investors Council, the possibilities of reducing the tax burden would be considered.
