Marković: I am not going to tolerate privileges

Montenegro’s Prime Minister, Mr Duško Marković, said to the president of the Trade Union of Medical Doctors, Mrs Milena Popović Samardžić, that he “understands her concern for Montenegrin doctors and that the country is doing its best to provide healthcare system with the equipment in case greater epidemic breaks out”.

In her letter addressed to Mr Marković, Mrs Samardžić said “while healthcare workers do their job wearing textile masks in the absence of netter ones, children of Minister Hrapović’s have the best masks and use them for fun and making photos”.

“Honestly, I was pretty astonished with the fact that the letter was already in the media, while I was reading it. I want to assure you that the country is doing its best to provide healthcare system with the equipment necessary for greater epidemic”, Mr Marković said.

He points out he is proud of healthcare workers.

“They are devoted to their work non-stop. I am proud of all of them, and of healthcare system particularly”, Mr Marković said.

He stressed that coronavirus pandemic has surprised many countries, even those much stronger and more prepared than Montenegro.

“Unfortunately, many people lose battle with this terrible epidemic. Therefore, many countries have banned export of medical and protection equipment. However, we have managed to order and pay considerable amounts of protection equipment”, Mr Marković said.

He admits that the system is not perfect.

“There are shortcomings, but I am very proud of the reaction and abilities of everybody. We should not talk about weaknesses at the moment, but we should all focus on the ways of responding to this threat”, Mr Marković said.

In every situation, a great number of heroes emerge, but also those who are never satisfied.

“Your suggestions and suggestions of your counterparts are already on the table of the National Coordination Body. In relation to your objection to unethical behavior of those who are linked to the officials of the executive power, I understand your remark and I welcome it. That means I won’t tolerate privileges or personal approach to this”, Mr Marković said.

PM said that the Government was constantly working to improve the position of healthcare workers.

“This situation shows that the money we earmark must be distributed better, for better salaries and high-quality equipment for everybody. This is the moment institutions must sacrifice to save lives of our citizens”, Mr Marković wrote in his letter.
