“Is our FOR against Russia and Russian interests? No. Our FOR is for our interests, and not against Russian interests. We don’t want to jeopardize traditionally good relations with Russia and Russian people. That is a tradition of over 300 years and it cannot be erased from our memory. Nor can any responsible politics or government accept that as its political course. But we chose our direction, our path is towards Europe, our thoughts are towards western civilzations. Thi is not against Russia, this is FOR for us, for our people and our citizens”, said Markovic, it was reported by Antena M.
While speaking about why NATO is necessary to Montenegro, but to Balkans as well, Markovic said “because even nowadays we suffer consequences of our inability to solve crisis or to find mechanisms for overcoming crisis in a democratic and fair way”.
“Absurd are accusations that we want to join NATO this year because that is in the interest of the government or a coalition that constitutes the government. No, that is our strategic long-term interest that is based on political will”, said Markovic.
Ambassador of Germany in Montenegro Elizabeth Gudrun Steinacker repeated that Germany is for the membership of our country in NATO, but the decision is not to be made by Germany but by all the member countries unanimously.
It was also stated in the discussion that Montenegro doesn’t lose any of its sovereignity by NATO membership.
