Marković: Montenegro opens its borders in the first days of June

Montenegro’s Prime Minister, Mr Duško Marković, addressed the Montenegrin public today after Montenegro officially became the first European corona-free destination.

PM announced opening of kindergartens next week, while borders are expected to be open in the first days of June.

“Next week, a limited number of people will be allowed to attend sport events. Kindergartens, pre-school institutions, cinemas and theaters will be open”, PM said.

Mr Marković announced opening borders with countries which “meet adequate epidemic criteria”.

“Right now, these countries are: Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Albania, Greece. That will enhance our tourism”, PM said.

Special testing won’t be required

Mr Marković said that we wanted to open the country towards those countries with similar or the same epidemic status.

“Special testing on entering Montenegro won’t be required. But everybody will be obliged to adhere to special instructions and rules. I think it is enough to prevent importation of the virus and be open to tourists at the same time”, PM said.

Wedding ceremonies, baptism…

Mr Marković said that organization of baptism ceremonies, wedding ceremonies and family celebrations would be allowed- also while adhering to health and safety measures.

Gratitude to everybody

Montenegro is the first European country without any coronavirus case.

“Corona-free is the emblem status of Montenegro on all meridians. Montenegro is special for the results it achieved in fighting coronavirus. Once again, Montenegro comes out of this fight stronger and more stable”, PM said.

He said that we had won this fight!

“On the behalf of Government and my own behalf, I congratulate everyone who was on the front line: doctors, nurse, pharmacists and healthcare workers, police officers, members of security services and armed forces. Members of inspection, protection services, volunteers, employees in municipal services, flight crews, airport services and transport workers, staff in supermarkets and commerce, to everyone who was in charge of providing everyday services. To more than 5000 companies and individuals who have made donations”, PM pointed out.

Montenegrin borders weren’t closed to its nationals

“Montenegro has managed to become the last country where the virus was registered and the first one which defeated it. Without state of emergency”, PM said.

He reminded that Montenegrin borders had been open to its nationals during the pandemic.

“We have provided enough medical equipment. We decided to stop the virus at the borders”, Mr Marković noted.

The third package of measures

We have managed to save our economy, Mr Marković said, while announcing the third package of measures.

“As of today, National Coordination Body is tasked with finding the best solutions to enhance economy, open borders and attract tourists”, Mr Marković said.
