On Tuesday again, Bishop Metodije of Budimlje and Niksic, glorified in Berane the leaders of the Chetniks in World War II, responsible for war crimes and mass slaughter of the civilian population.
During the memorial service in the village of Gornji Zaostro, which preceded the traditional Chetnik gathering, Bishop Metodije harshly attacked the partisan movement, claiming that they were behind major crimes, including alleged crimes, unknown to history, against the Italians who were the occupying army in Montenegro, Pobjeda reports.
The affirmative views of Ostojic, and somewhat earlier Metropolitan Joanikije and parish priest Gojko Perovic, about the Chetnik movement and its leaders indicate that the ideology of that Quisling movement has become dominant in the clergy of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro.
The choice of Zaostro to host Chetnik gatherings is not accidental – that village near Berane during World War II was the headquarters of the quisling, war criminal and leader of the Chetnik movement in Montenegro, Pavle Djurisic, whose crimes Metodije does not mention.
The biggest crime against Muslims by Djurisic’s Chetniks was committed in Cajnicki and part of the Pljevlja region in February 1943. On that occasion, according to Pavle Djurisic’s dispatch sent to Mihailovic, around 1,200 armed Muslims were killed, and more than 8,000 innocent Muslim population were killed, many in a brutal manner. Apart from the already mentioned Bukovica (563), 481 residents of Meljak and 384 residents of Boljanica were also killed on that occasion.
