Good morning! What our politics has become. Milojko Spajic promises the impossible, while URA officials are getting angry as he’s destroying their plans with Jakov and taking their votes.
Mickey promises people are going to work less and earn more
Milojko Spajic is elusive. If this society and state were free from party and church reins on one hand, and external malignant influence on the other, how far would it go? Milojko is a super-populist, both left and right. He cuts taxes but raises salaries. He reduces working hours, is open to cryptocurrencies and modernizes the administration. Critics say it’s all an empty story, just like Montenegro Works, Air Montenegro and other lies. They also say that all this is just a new mask for the partitocratic capture of state bodies.
But people like to be lied to, people like to deceive themselves. And to be frank, if Milojko lies, he lies more beautifully and modernly than Dritan or Aleksa, for example. Although they’re of the same age, all that young officials of the Democrats and URA – who are veterans of the political stage possessing 10+ years of experience – they cannot compare to the ideas and way of articulating messages of Mickey and his team. Milojko’s way of doing it is more spontaneous, faster, more modern. They simply don’t have a solution for him. That’s why they were ready to support Vucic and the DPS just to get rid of him. Now they’re ready to arrest him on the basis of the criminal complaint filed by Nebojsa Medojevic and Montenegro International.
But it only creates a counter-effect among the voters, who see it as an injustice of the bureaucratized apparatus of force confronting one man. And here’s a winning combination for Spajic. Empathy is a strong emotion, especially empathy with the weaker in the society of the weak and disenfranchised.
Nevertheless, Milojko is not a traditional Montenegrin politician eager for power, and is not interested in the position order within the system. Contrary to Dritan, who traditionally first tackled the administration and police, Miki recognized that the power is in finances, if you know how to manage them. Finances and after that – economy. While the Montenegrins in the SFRY pursued careers in the army and Udba, the Croats, Slovenes and part of the Serbs knew that power lies in the economy. That is why, along with Kosovo, we ended up at the back of the column of development in the former Yugoslavia.
For Milojko, there is simply no solution from either side. He entered everyone’s field. And avoids emotional-security topics. The identity issues have calmed down with the departure of Dritan, who unquestioningly listens to the SPC, that issue will move to Jakov, who will recognize himself as competitive with Milojko only in that area. In this way, by going Serbian, Jakov will isolate himself and limit himself from influencing the sovereignist electorate. If he ever has the courage to again engage in provoking a stronger one, after being slapped by the Main Board.
On the other hand, the decapitated sovereigntists, who would have a chance to return to the leftist ideological base now and force the trade union struggle, the rights of women and other marginalized social groups, to promote and form coalitions with intellectuals over social justice, have no strength to deal with it. They are too rigid and fattened by power for those topics. And now Mickey started talking about the seven-hour working hours. He knows how to speak feminist and supports the LTBTQ+ community.
It’d be good for Montenegrin democracy to crystallise three large political groups. Here is a semi-realistic thought exercise on how a less chaotic political stage in Montenegro with three strong poles might look like:
First, the DPS, which needs to get rid of the rigidity and arrogance and return to its left ideological base. The second is the DF, which is a conservative right, but unfortunately not Montenegrin, which would get rid of its isolation if it stopped to unquestioningly serve the project of a greater Serbia and if they turned to Montenegro. The third would be Europe Now, which should also gradually get rid of the influence of Belgrade and the SPC and place itself in the liberal center. But not the center between Serbia and Montenegro, rather between the left and the right. Other small parties, with the exception of ethnic minority ones, in that case no longer have a reason to exist and should join some of these three blocs. Officials of the SDP, SD and LP to join the DPS, while officials of the SNP to become members of the DF. This includes the Democrats, whose model of transition from a Serbian to a Montenegrin conservative party could serve as an example for the DF to emerge from isolation. And the drowning people from URA should get rid of the compromised leadership and join the Europe Now Movement.
