President of Montenegro Jakov Milatovic and President of the European Council António Costa have sent a joint invitation letter to EU and Western Balkan leaders to attend the EU–Western Balkans Summit, which will be held on 5 June in Tivat.
The letter highlights that this is a historic moment, as Montenegro will host the summit for the first time, confirming its role as a credible EU partner and a bridge between the region and the European Union. The event takes place amid renewed political momentum for EU enlargement, which is described as a strategic priority for Europe.
The summit’s central theme will be “Shared Prosperity and Stability of the European Union and the Western Balkans,” focusing on enlargement progress, the Growth Plan, regional stability, connectivity, resilience, and alignment with EU policies and standards. The programme includes a plenary session and a working lunch dedicated to key challenges and opportunities in the enlargement process.
Leaders are also invited to a ceremonial dinner on 4 June, marking the 20th anniversary of Montenegro’s restoration of independence and symbolising European partnership and shared values.
The Summit is presented as a strong signal of European unity and renewed enlargement momentum, with Montenegro further strengthening its position within the EU integration process.
