The State Election Commission, DIK, should have waited for the decision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the Serbian citizenship of the Leader of Europe Now, Milojko Spajic, claims the former President of the Constitutional Court and professor of law, Blagota Mitric.
Last night, DIK didn’t approve of the proposal for Mr Spajic’s presidential run. Four members of this institution were against his candidacy, four abstained, while three were in favor.
Mr Mitric also adds that it’s a fact that DIK is a state body, making political decisions, pointing out that the parliament is a state body as well, making political decisions on many matters as well. The same is with the government, according to him.
“I personally believe that DIK should have waited for MUP’s decision on the disputable circumstance, as in that way it would have more relevant facts for the decision-making. Now there’s only an option to submit an election appeal to the Constitutional Court within 48 hours, the court must decide on it no later than 48 hours from the day it received the appeal, and we don’t have the Constitutional Court,” Mr Mitric posted on Facebook.
