MNE to support Riyadh, instead of Rome, to host EXPO 2030

Vladin prilog za izvještaj Evropske komisije

Montenegro’s decision to support Saudi Arabia and not Italy for the organization of the world exhibition EXPO 2030 is final, the government has confirmed to Radio Free Europe.

Caretaker PM Dritan Abazovic has said that it is in the state’s interest to support Saudi Arabia “because they are participating in the construction of an educational facility in Montenegro”.

“I think it would be rational to use them to support the University of Montenegro with a multi-million sum. I understand the stories – EU, EU, EU, but Riyadh was also supported by Greece, France, Bulgaria, Spain. We will have a better stall in Riyadh, probably for free”, said Abazovic at the cabinet meeting.

This decision was opposed at the meeting only by Minister Zoran Miljanic, who pointed out that Montenegro should vote for Italy, not Saudi Arabia.

“Everything can be done for money and I cannot accept such arguments. Italy is a neighbor of Montenegro, a country that is a leading member of the EU, and the EU is our main goal”, said Miljanic.

Five countries submitted candidacies for the organization of the World Expo 2030. After the withdrawal of the candidatures of Russia and Ukraine, the remaining three are current – South Korea, Italy and Saudi Arabia.
