Chief of EU Diplomacy Federica Mogherini is today in Pristina, where she met Prime Minister Isa Mustafa. Media reports that she said this was the last moment for Kosovo to ratify agreement on demarcation of border lines with Montenegro.
The agreement is the last condition for visa liberalization for Kosovo citizens, N1 reports.
During a joint press conference with Mustafa, Mogherini added that the liberalization of visas is now completely in the hands of Kosovo institutions.
“European Commission suggestion presented here in May last year was very clear. There are two conditions to meet in order to achieve liberalization of visas: Kosovo needs to improve corruption and organized crime management. They have made some progress there. The other condition was ratification of agreement with demarcation of border lines with Montenegro. Unfortunately, there was no progress in that department”, she said.
According to her, this is the last moment for the ratification of the agreement.
“We are prepared for liberalization and its up to the Parliament to take measures. Political parties, leaders and forces have a responsibility to overcome differences and look for constructive ways forward. I believe that political parties will find a way to work together and ratify this agreement”, she added.
People of Kosovo deserve liberalization of visas.
“I believe that the citizens do not deserve that their progress towards EU be prevented by lack of political consensus. It is very significant for Kosovo and the region to continue onwards towards EU. It is an investment in stability and safety. Significant progress was made in the region last year, and Kosovo demonstrated the possibility of progress. We agreed that there is no alternative for the dialogue”, Mogherini said.
Prime Minister of Kosovo Isa Mustafa said that Kosovo is very much applied to the implementation of the agreement on stabilization and accession.
“Dialogue with neighbouring countries and Serbia we see as a condition for normalization of our relations and solution of all open matters”, he said.
