Montenegro airports will welcome record number of passengers this year

In an interview for CdM, the Airports of Montenegro CEO, Danilo Orlandić, spoke about work results, plans, new destinations…

The Airports of Montenegro will welcome 2.5 million passengers, and when compared to the last year’s statistics (2,184,000 passengers), it’s evident that the number has significantly increased. Also, 54% of people coming to MNE actually use air traffic, which tells us a lot about the significance of this segment for our state.

The Airports of Montenegro CEO couldn’t hide his satisfaction with the achieved results: “From 1st January to 17 June, our airport welcomed 737,005 passengers, which is 110,000 more passengers than in the same period last year. The airport in Podgorica welcomed 434,817 passengers, while the one in Tivat welcomed 302,180 of them. In 17 days of June, the airport in Tivat recorded 104,520 passengers.”

“Only in one day, the airport in Tivat had 45 airplanes, which clearly speaks about the passenger turnover in our airports. We had planes taking off and landing every 20-25 minutes and this was our last year’s average in peak summer season,” Orlandić said proudly.

He also said that a great number of the most important world airline carriers land in our airports in Podgorica and Tivat, such as: Turkish Airlines, Aeroflot, Rynair, WizzAir, EasyJet, Alitalia, Austrian, Lot, Eurowings, etc.

One of the main goals is to introduce Lufthansa to our airports, as it definitely represents one of the largest airline companies in the world. “That is one of our strategic goals. We also plan to improve connection with Scandinavia as it represents a very significant market for our country,” Orlandić was adamant.

According to him, there’s another very important strategic goal- to connect Montenegro with China and Iran. “We strive to increase the number of guests from Iran and China, especially after summer, as it may bring us more tourists,” Orlanić stressed in an interview with CdM.

More than EUR 3.1 million invested

In order to provide efficient services, we needed to invest in construction of new capacities within the airport, said Orlandić.

Since his term of office began, 3.1 million euro was invested in the airports’ infrastructure, primarily in the new elevators, electric stairway, security equipment, explosives-detection equipment, etc…

Orlandić couldn’t stop boasting about his airports, adding that the one in Tivat will have the explosive-detection equipment installed and therefore will meet demanding EU standards. Beat that.
