“A common, time-consuming procedure of amending the SAA characteristic for similar cases was avoided. The procedure involves certain concessions of Montenegro to the EU. At the session on 15 December, the European Parliament adopted amendments to the Regulation relating to exceptional trade measures for countries in the process of stabilisation and association to the EU by a majority vote. Montenegro has been allowed to access a global quota for wine, which is made possible only countries that previously met their quotas for wine defined by protocols on wine negotiated through the SSP. Given that Montenegro was not able to meet its quota for wine, which would refer only to bottled wine, and did not timely negotiated exporting bulk wine within the SSP, it was not able to use the global quota relating to bulk wine,” the ministry explained in a statement.
The decision on the renewal of trade preferences is analysed and updated every five years and it means that the latest decision, which enters into force on 1 January next year, will be valid until 31 December 2020.
