Montenegro remains committed to joint efforts aimed at strengthening defense and deterrence. In the forthcoming period, Montenegro will continue to responsibly conduct policies of the Alliance, said in Brussels Minister of Defense, Mr Predrag Bošković.
During the North Atlantic Council meeting at the level of the defense ministers of NATO members, Mr Bošković took part in the session dedicated to NATO defense and deterrence policy.
“Allies agree that strengthening collective defense, taking in to consideration complexity and unpredictability of the contemporary security environment, improvement of the overall security of the Alliance is essential. It is necessary to continue working on the intensification of readiness of our forces so that they can respond to threats effectively and without limitations”, said the representatives of the Ministry.
Importance of equal distribution of burden was emphasized too. Investing in national forces has an impact on capability and readiness of NATO forces.
“Minister reminded that Montenegro was committed to following guidelines issued at the Summit in Wales and said that we would gradually increase the percentage of funds necessary for the construction and reinforcement of our capabilities”, added representatives of the Ministry.
Mr Bošković said that the two-day meeting was marked with discussions regarding challenges the Alliance is faced with.
Ministers touched on the position of the Alliance in the context of the termination of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, which was a very important element of armament control.
“It was agreed that such situation should be approached with balanced and coordinated package of measures, with the aim of maintaining NATO credibility and deterrence”.
