Montenegro spent EUR 71 million, that is, USD 85 million, on defense last year, which accounts for 1.55% of the Montenegrin GDP, suggests the 2018 NATO annual report already presented in Brussels in 2018, reports Pobjeda, a daily.
Of all the NATO Allies, the United States contributed the largest amount of funds – USD 684 billion, followed by the United Kingdom that spent USD 62 billion on defense last year and France which contributed USD 51 billion to NATO.
The NATO Report also shows Montenegro spent the largest part of money on personnel expenditures – 71.65%, i.e. on pensions paid to retirees and other military costs. In addition, 9.66% of Montenegro’s defense spending was on the military equipment and 2.68% on the infrastructure. All the other costs, including costs of operations and the hidden ones, accounted for 16.01% of the total amount.
As for the number of soldiers, our country is counting 1.700, while the Luxembourg’s Army consists of a mere 800 soldiers.
