Montenegro’s EU accession has been stagnating

Crna Gora stagnira na EU putu

Speaking in a show screened on Gradska TV, ex-Montenegrin diplomat and a professor of international relations at the Boston University, Vesko Gacevic, assesses that there was a slowdown in the EU integration over the past year so Montenegro is not recognised as a leader anymore, but is in the same place as the countries of the region.

According to him, that’s the reason why Brussels merged Serbia and Montenegro in the negotiations.

“I think the enlargement, the way we imagine it, is unlikely to happen,” says Mr Gacevic, adding that a small progress during the rule of the former government might be brought into question.

He warns that the situation is not good for Montenegro’s political image.
