According to data of the Statistical Office of Montenegro, there have been more baby boys than girls born over the past decade in Montenegro. Figures say the trend continued last year as well, as there were 262 more male births than female ones. From 2011 to 2020, there were 2.922 more baby boys than girls born, while the largest discrepancy was recorded in 2014, when the number of female births was fewer than 365, reported Dan daily.
For years, Montenegro, along with Albania, Azerbaijan and Armenia, has been one of the countries where the cries of babies born every year have been predominately male, which may lead to a larger demographic imbalance. The United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, stated that Montenegro is among the countries with the largest discrepancy in the number of male and female births in Europe and Central Asia. According to them, there’s a ratio of roughly 110 male births for every 100 female ones.
According to school statistics, the number of girls is drastically lower than the number of boys. Thus, in 2020, there were 68.506 pupils in primary schools, of whom 35.719 were boys and 32.787 girls.
