Mr Đukanović: We are not going to let Balkans fall under the influence of third parties

Are we going to defend European, Euro-Atlantic system of values, just like NATO and EU, or are we going to let Balkans fall under the influence of third parties that want to use the confusion to penetrate their policies that are in contravention of ours? That is the question now, said the President of Montenegro, Mr Milo Đukanović.

“Bearing animosity towards those who don’t share our views isn’t a solution. We should rather develop partnership, while preserving our special characteristics and promoting our system of values”, said the President.

Mr Đukanović commented on the recently held election to the European Parliament.

“Europe is living in the condition of a strategic confusion and, consequently, its ability to give answers to some very important questions is stymied. Europe has to define clearly its foreign policy interests”, said Mr Đukanović.

He points out that it is very important that Europe continues with the enlargement policy.

“Enlargement policy will contribute to more complete stability of Europe and its better competitiveness on the political stage. It’s high time Europe focused its security policy to the question of its interests. With full respect for the rules of Euro-Atlantic partnership, I think Europe shouldn’t take part in such partnership without fully developed identity”, said Mr Đukanović.

In his opinion, a new phase of geo-political scene is set to begin.

“There are some new players and we must not look at them as if they were our political adversaries”, said President.

He points out that Montenegro has to keep promoting its values and establishing partnership with the neighbors.

“Ability of conducting policy successfully is crucial”, said Mr Đukanović.
