Mayor Sasa Mujovic says construction works on the wastewater treatment facility in Botun are expected to resume early next week, after the site was temporarily sealed due to minor administrative and technical issues. He describes the suspension as unnecessary, explaining that it was caused by missing documentation on-site, including a certified version of the main project, geodetic markings, and a construction supervision license.
Mr Mujovic has noted that the Botun wastewater treatment facility is the most important infrastructure project currently underway in Podgorica, and that all identified shortcomings will be quickly addressed. He has questioned the unusually swift response of the inspection authorities in this case, contrasting it with the lack of action against long-standing illegal construction in the city centre.
According to the mayor, the project poses no risk to public health or the environment, and the government remains fully committed to its implementation, including providing necessary guarantees. He adds that the Turkish contractor has already carried out preparatory works at the site and that the next phase will include the installation of a concrete fence.
Mr Mujovic has also outlined progress on several other infrastructure projects across the city. He says works on the Vojislavljevici Boulevard are approaching the final phase of the first section, despite earlier delays. Road reconstructions are ongoing in the neighborhoods of Zagoric and Zabjelo, while works on Bokeska Street will begin after the completion of works in Sloboda Street.
Looking ahead, the mayor announced plans for an 8 km pedestrian and cycling promenade along the Moraca River, connecting Duklja with Ljeskopoljska Gorica. The project could receive support from the EU and is envisioned as a symbol of Podgorica’s green and sustainable development.
Addressing governance challenges, he says political instability shouldn’t affect project implementation, noting that the city budget has already been adopted. He reiterates a zero-tolerance policy toward illegal construction and highlighted ongoing efforts to repair the Mareza canal to prevent flooding.
