In an interview with the national television RTCG, Mr Nagy said he believed NATO invitation would be sent by the end of the year.
“Definitely all member states and all the allies are satisfied with Montenegro’s progress. We see the country as a strong and reliable partner in the Alliance and I am optimistic and strongly believe that NATO invitation will be sent by the end of the year,” Mr Nagy said.
Asked whether the result of latest surveys showing that currently the percent of those supporting NATO membership of Montenegro was higher than the percent of opponents would make easier for the ministers of the member states to decide on invitation, Mr Nagy said that increasing support was extremely important.
“I want to say that the moves of the Government and the NATO Communication Team are successful. Now we can see first result of a strong and positive campaign that is still going on,” Mr Nagy said.
He added that NATO membership did not mean only security in terms the security situation, challenges, asymmetric threats and instability in the region, but also provided a necessary strong foundation for everything that Montenegro needed to ensure future development.
Asked whether he expected the public support for NATO would further grow, he said it definitely would.
“I am convinced that the majority of Montenegrins would understand the advantages of NATO membership, and that it would benefit their safety and security as well as a more open society, and reliable judicial system,” Mr Nagy explained.
