New container terminals to be built in Bar

New Container terminals will be built within port Bar next year, Government Strategy for the development of maritime economy states.

The document envisages that the project should be completed by 2025 and that Container terminal will be built on the basis of concessions and public and private partnership.

The value of the investment wasn’t stated.

With the construction of the new container terminal, Montenegro would get the chance to become one of the first ports of Europe for ships coming from Asia.

“That would increase further transport of goods via ships, railway or road traffic towards Central and East Europe, North Africa and Western Asia. Apart from transport activity, this would provide chance for the port in Bar to produce and pack goods in containers”, the Strategy says.

Improvement of road and railway infrastructure would create conditions for multi-modal transport system.

Former Container terminals were bought by Turkish “Global Ports” company seven years ago.

“Global ports” assumed the task to realize investments in restructuring container terminal in three years. In addition, Turkish company was obliged to realize another investment scheme after restructuring phase.

The readers will find interesting the information that Sukobin border crossing will become a crossing for traffic of goods.

The document recommends achievement of full potential of the Free zone of port in Bar through enhancement of production and manufacturing activity within the zone.

Authors of the Strategy believe that, by 2030, Montenegro will restore the image of traditionally maritime state with significantly improved and competitive maritime economy whose development is based on principles of sustainability.

Authors believe that in the next ten years, ports in Montenegro will be recognized in the entire Mediterranean as ports that provide primarily construction services, services of the overhaul of yachts and mega-yachts and ports that represent quality support for nautical tourism.
