If there is no quorum, Milic stays SNP leader?

Srđan Milić

Socialist People’s Party (SNP) executive committee sitting is scheduled for 5 June. During the sitting, the party’s leader Srdjan Milic’s resignation is to be confirmed. The committee will also appoint an acting president who will lead the party in the next 60 days, Dnevne Novine writes.

The committee is also expected to decide on the date for the party congress at which the new leader would be elected and establish the criteria for electing party delegates.

Milic resigned under pressure from his opponents in the party, primarily the Berane mayor Dragoslav Scekic and MP Aleksandar Damjanovic.

However, those who wished Milic’s resignation predict that there will not be the end of his position as the party leader.

A DN’s source from SNP argues that it is possible that the Executive Committee will fail to confirm Milic’s resignation if his supporters refuse to come to the sitting, since in that case here will be no necessary quorum.

In this way, as the source said, Milic would lead the party as a resigning president until the congress.

Dragoslav Šćekić

As DN’s source said, Milic’s candidacy for the party leader has not been ruled out. In his statement on resignation, intentionally or not, he avoided saying whether he would run for the position.

According to DN, that would be his way to demonstrate to the public and party members that Congress supported him again, despite opposition from many of its members.

Scekic has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the SNP leader.

Snežana Jonica

Former SNP MP Snezana Jonica, which has been recognised as a party official close to Milic, may also be one of the candidates for president in the upcoming Congress if Milic supports her.

However, according to DN, relations between Milic and Jonica are not excellent currently. The relations were worsened after Milic’s failed attempt to dismiss SNP Bijelo Polje Committee chairman Radosav Nisavic.
