North Atlantic Council: We are working on Montenegro’s invitation

The session of the NAC, at the level of permanent ambassadors of NATO members, is of preparatory character before the main meeting of the Ministerial Council, which would on December 1st decide on the invitation to Montenegro.

According to Pobjeda, the final position on Montenegro’s invitation will be known shortly before the session of the Ministerial Council, after another set of consultations.

Daily’s source from Brussels said NAC is working intensively on securing a consensus to call Montenegro, adding it is expected that the terrorist attacks in Paris will not affect the willingness to invite Montenegro into the Alliance.

“We are working on the invitation for Montenegro – this is our agenda, and not delay of the call, let alone inhibition of the process of enlargement of the Alliance. In the past few days, we had intensive consultations with Montenegrin government and I believe that we can all hope for a positive outcome, the invitation for membership”, the source from diplomatic circles in Brussels told Pobjeda.

The source, who attended the session of the NAC, added that among ambassadors of the 28 member states who support inviting Montenegro, the only unknown decisive attitude is yet that of France.

“Diplomatic representative of France said he is awaiting instructions of his Government. Until then, all speculation about the position of France are merely guesses”, the source said, stating that this does not mean a priori negative attitude of Paris.
