In his statement for CdM, Mr. Bakovic says he regrets that the trend of inappropriate ways of expressing an opinion regarding current political situation did not stop, despite many appeals to end primitive and offensive campaigns and to realize the bad consequences of such actions on the overall democratic process in the country.
“Unfortunately, pointing to and condemning of various relevant social actors were not effective because the trend continued, transitioning from the virtual into the real world”, said Ombudsman Bakovic.
Commenting recent events relating to the harassment of family members and peaceful enjoyment of the family home of the President of Positive Montenegro, Darko Pajović, Mr. Bakovic noted the necessity of tolerance in expressing and communicating different opinions.
“Ombudsman especially stresses the positive obligation of the state to prevent acts and actions which impinge on the private life, undermine the integrity of the family and the family home and harass people just because of their political and/or public profiles, which is not only permitted but constitutionally guaranteed as a special right”, says Bakovic.
Ombudsman expects that competent authorities shall act in accordance with their powers and calls on all political actors and entities involved in the political process, to implement their political activism at the appropriate places, and in an appropriate manner.
“We believe that there are many ways to creatively express opinions that do not threaten anyone or any guaranteed right”, he concluded.
