Populist decision of the Government of Montenegro to cancel contract with the Maritime Transport company without any previous analysis caused traffic jams both on the coast and roads. Citizens are being dissatisfied, the Mimosa Festival is under way, while there’s only one rented ferry operating on the Kamenari-Lepetane line transporting around 20 vehicles, excluding vans. A kilometres-long convoy of cars was spotted in Boka.
The government made decision that the Public Enterprise for Coastal Zone Management had met the conditions to operate the Kamenari-Lepetane ferry line after the Maritime Transport company received last night the information that their contract with the government was canceled.
“Like many other things that happened over the past period, this decision was also non-transparent, as well as the manner in which they canceled the contract and failed to inform the public. It’s an important route, it’s not good that both citizens and the state bear consequences of it,” an economic observer, Mirza Muleskovic, tells CdM.
As it’s the only way of transport between the two coasts, Mr Muleskovic considers that they first had to find the solution and then cancel the contract.
According to him, all economies should advocate for free market, and a transparent procedure should be carried out in order to find the best way to maintain that line.
President of the Montenegrin Tourism Association, Zarko Radulovic, has told Antena M that the consequences of the recent events with the Kamenari-Lepetane ferry line would be negative and immense for the Montenegrin tourism. He emphasizes that he doesn’t intend to state who’s guilty or right, but must point out to the consequences of such move.
The ferry line Kamenari-Lepetane is under control of the state as of 9 February this year and is run by the Public Enterprise for Coastal Zone Management.
