Over 1/4 of highway debt repaid, €17m earned

So far, the state of Montenegro has paid 6 loan installments to the Chinese EXIM Bank for the first section of the highway from Smokovac to Matesevo, while the remaining debt amounts to $721,284,842 (€667,729,442), the Ministry of Finance has told the RTCG portal.

The Ministry recalls that the loan for the highway section is repaid twice a year in 2 installments (January and June).

From the total debt, as the data show, the state still has $721,284,842 left to repay, and the due date is January 2035. This means that there are 22 installments of the loan left to be repaid, the Ministry of Finance has stressed.

The loan arrangement with EXIM Bank was concluded in 2014, with a grace period of 6 years and a repayment period of 14 years.

Since the opening of the first Bar-Boljare highway section, the revenue of €17,244,551 has been collected.

This highway section was opened for traffic on 13 July 2022.
