The proposed budget proposal for next year is a measure of what is possible, but through the planned reform of the wage system in the public sector, it is possible to increase wages, Bojan Paunovic, from the Ministry of Finance, told TVCG.

There will be no selective increase because that would be unfair to those who were last in line for a better standard, he added.

“I say that this is currently a measure of what is possible. Also, I think we should wait for the reforms that have been announced. Therefore, I would like to remind you that for 2024, the reform of the wage system in the public sector and changes to the existing system law have been announced, which may bring certain novelties, which may be expressed through, let’s say, an increase in wages”, said Paunovic.

On the other hand, there is a need to optimize the number of employees in the public sector, he stressed.

“We have a whole series of things that need to be done in the field of salary systems that should somehow reflect the improvement of the quality of life of all employees”, said Paunovic.
