Deputy prime minister Zoran Pazin, in his address to Montenegrin and European Parliament deputies in the Parliament of Montenegro, said that 30 open and three imminently closed negotiation chapters is a success that no other candidate country can boast with.
“This result motivates us to continue to progress more intensively. And one of the key expectations is that the European Union will recognise and assess the accomplishments of each country that strives for membership in the Union separately,” said Pazin.
Presenting the key results in the fight against corruption and organised crime, Vice President Pazin said that, since the establishment of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, in less than two years, based on the agency’s decision and opinion on the existence of a conflict of interest, 105 public officials resigned.
He pointed out that in the part of the fight against corruption, 12 cases were conducted against a total of 54 natural and four legal entities. For the criminal offense of money laundering, investigations were launched against 24 people and inquiries against two persons.
Speaking about freedom of expression and media freedom, Pazin pointed to the need for more proactive action by the authorities for detecting attacks on the media, as well as the need to strengthen self-regulation of the media.
