It does not take special sensibility to realize that the holders of important state and diplomatic positions, but also participants in decisions at the time of the referendum on the restoration of Montenegro’s independence and NATO integration, are “targets” of those who fought against Montenegro’s independence and against NATO integration, says Darko Pajovic, the former Parliament Speaker and Ambassador to Beijing, in an interview for Pobjeda.
Pajovic believes that the Government of Electoral Confidence in January 2016 was and remains Montenegro’s biggest democratic step forward and a turning point for Montenegro’s membership in NATO a year later.
When referring to political changes in Montenegro, Pajovic says that this is now a completely different country, in terms of “intolerance, political, national and religious, as well as the incomprehensible influence of the church on political issues. ‘Wanderings’ in the policies and decisions of the holders of the largest state positions are reflected and spill over into the behavior of institutions and the citizens themselves. And of course, the complete absence of what was painstakingly built is noticeable: transparency of public finances, respect for the rights of minority peoples, generally European values, which are otherwise difficult to find in this area”.
“Montenegro has had changes, but those changes are for the worse, not for the better”, Pajovic points out.
