After airing a series of negative information about Montenegro, Russian media admit that this year’s tourist season in the country is successful. They also confirm that the number of Russian tourists who have visited Montenegro this year is not lower, but rather at the same level as before.
Travel and tourism news website Turprom (turprom.ru) has released an article saying that Russian tourists have not avoided Montenegro despite the fact it joined NATO.
“The National Tourism Organisation said that 14% more tourists from Russia stayed in Montenegro than last year. Tourism experts from Russia say that the figure is somewhat exaggerated, but that the number of Russian tourists who came to Montenegro this year is at the last year’s level. However, this result should also be seen as a success, particularly having in mind negative effects of Montenegro’s joining NATO,” Turprom said.
The National Tourism Organization of Montenegro recently said that since the beginning of the year there has been an increase in the number of tourists and the number of overnight stays compared to the previous year.
“We are particularly satisfied that we had more than a successful preseason, but also that during the main season we achieved positive results. In the first six months there were close to 349,000 tourists in hotels, resorts and similar facilities in Montenegro (a 18% rise), and almost 1,212 .000 overnight stays (a 15% rise compared to the same period of the previous year),” the NTO stated.
As for the Russian market, according to NTO’s official statistics, as many as 30,000 Russians stayed in Montenegrin hotels in the first six months of 2017. It is about a 14% increase compared to the same period last year.
“The number of overnight stays in hotels is more than quadrupled, when it comes to Russian tourists. They had more than 179,000 overnight stays in the first six months,” NTO explained.
According to the Tivat Airport, there was a 20% increase in the number of passengers during the past two months. Only at the beginning of August, 13,000 passengers from Russia arrived at Tivat Airport, a 15% rise compared to the same period last year.
