The images posted on X, formerly Twitter, showing how Prime Minister Milojko Spajic is spending his summer vacation in St. Tropez sparked strong reactions of the Montenegrin public. Both the opposition and X users claim that the prime minister is splashing out on France’s glorious Côte d’Azur thus disrespecting the Montenegrin parliament as well as other institutions. Mr Spajic party – Europe Now (PES) – says he has the right to vacation, adding that he’s spending his own money.
According to some media, PM Spajic cancelled his attendance at the session of the Defence and Security Council, which was supposed to be held on 20 August, precisely because of St-Tropez. Mr Spajic’s cabinet denied the allegations.
In addition, yesterday’s extraordinary session of the Parliament of Montenegro discussed the prime minister’s summer holiday break.
“PM Spajic has the right to go on a summer holiday with his brother and his partner. Executive power is taking some rest while the parliament is working, that’s totally normal,” the head of the PES caucus, Vasilije Carapic, noted.
The opposition, on the other hand, said they didn’t care where Milojko Spajic was, but where the prime minister was and why he didn’t appear in the parliament, because the extraordinary session was scheduled at the request of the government.
